Matt Rainnie is a very familiar voice on Prince Edward Island. The longtime journalist and broadcaster recently retired from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation after a 32-year career.
Rainnie worked in television as a reporter for Compass before finding his home in radio. He’s most associated with his many years as host of the afternoon program Mainstreet on CBC Radio One, which brought him a deep connection to the Island’s vibrant arts and cultural community. He also hosted Island Morning on PEI, guest hosted the national program Sounds Like Canada and co-created the network summer series Lost and Found. Rainnie was host of the television program Short Film Face Off for several seasons out of Halifax on CBC Television
In the community, Rainnie has been MC for numerous key events including the Music PEI Awards and the Sport PEI Awards. He’s written screenplays optioned for production and has performed as an actor on stage and television. In his retirement, Rainnie is developing several creative projects.
